Hye, i’m Joanita Aren. This is my report for my second last semester. For this second last semester i have 3 subject that is Nursing Science 9,10 and 11. I will have my final exam for this subject on this october. Before this second last semester i go for practical. I attach at maternity ward, labour ward,operating theatre,orthopaedic ward. At maternity ward,i have do taking obstetric history,do calculation when a mother delivery baby, do abdominal palpation for a mother,monitoring of foetal heart rate,give health education to mather how to do breast examination, breast care and postnatal exercise after delivery baby. At labour ward, i have monitoring of uterine contractions, do a physical examination to a baby, bathing baby,changing baby nappies and care baby under phototherapy. At operating theatre, i just assess surgeon do a surgery. So many surgery i have been seen. At operting theatre i work for office hour.  At othopaedic ward, i have learned how to care patient on splint,traction and documentation of circulation chart. I also prepared amputation bed and prepare trolley for plaster of paris.After practical i have my exam practical that called OSCE. Ihave my OSCE CP2,CP3, CP4.All my exam is pass. The result is like the following :

      CP 2 = B

      CP 3 = B+

      CP 4 =B.

After OSCE, I continued my clinical practical for CP 6.For CP 6, i go to medical ward,geriatric ward (for older patient), go to Hospital Sentosa for attach at psychiatric ward for 2 weeks,and go to geriatric ward again,and then go to neurosurgery ward,go to oncolgy ward (for cancer patient ) ,and back to geriatric ward again. At psychiatric ward, i have assessment or compentency to take history of psychiatric patient. So,i must talk with patient and my clinical instructor will assesst me.I also observed patient in ward for any sign and symptom of aggressive behaviour. So if patient aggressive, we will restrained them. So patient will not hurt other patient. Other than that, i also give health education so patient cannot relapse and see ElectroConvulsive Therapy (ECT). This procedure cannot seen in the other ward it is special only at PSY.At geriatric ward just care of patient on bedsore, give patient feeding by Nasogastric tube,do bed bath, and give nebuliser to patient with AECOAD. At Oncolgy ward, In this ward, i have been give health education to patient about side effect  of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Other than that, i also do the chemotherapy care and do more blood transfusion for my improvement.

For transportation us go to practical is prepared by college but must paid rm70++ and rm 90++ for office hour. So iwant to thanks to sir Tbf aka penan. Smile sir..Thank you so much.Gbu...selamat hari raya....bye....

The passing away of the old guard.

Jamalang Ringgut passed away about 2 weeks before our visit to Lg Adang on May 1, 2012.

TOI Laso also pass away about a month ago in Ba Perisek. ie somewhere around March 2012.

Salyndra - Penan Nursing report 2011

Hi, I'm Salyndra Anyta Stephen. When I write this report, I'm now in second year doing my Diploma in Nursing at SEGi college in Kuching. First at all, I want to thanks to the many sponsors who was helped and support me and my friends. Without you all I'll not be at this ranked. Once again, Thanks all.

The first thing I would like to tell is, all about my experience to being here in Kuching from the beginning until today. I was came to Kuching on August 2009. I didn't know how I felt...some happy, excited, scared and more because most in open media, there was a lot of undesirable things in the city like Kuching. But thanks God, I can adapted until today. First day in college,I was quiet uncomfortable. A lot of people that I didn't knew and must to faced everyday. But nowadays, I can see the changes on my own. I make a lot of friend in college, church, during my practical at hospital and even with people outside there. At college and hostel, I make a lot of friend. Especially with Iban friends. I learnt their language...and sometimes their laughed on me because I can't pronounce well in their language. I ever went to their village...it very interested. Their asked me to take alcohol called " Tuak" but I can't, because it's not good for our health... That was a lot of  experience with iban people that I can't tell more.

About my life in college, my friend and me walked by foot go to college everyday. I ever repeated 2 subject in Semester 2. RM500 per subject and it paid by deducted from PTPTN loan. This two subject quite difficult for me. It's all about bone, count the drip..drive me going crazy to remember the name and type of the bone...hehe. But thanks God i was pass my exam. About hostel..hostel fees is paid by deducted from PTPTN loan. RM180 each/month.
We will buy our groceries by our own pockets money.

After Semester 4, I went to practical at GH in Kuching,Srwk for 2 months for Clinical Posting 1. First day in hospital, it was not so bored but more excited because in the college we just practice with the dummy and at hospital I need to faced with real patient. Sometime, make me so scared to do any procedure of nursing. One thing that I can't forgot is my friend and me who was a Iban girl, was helped a patient who was just came back from surgery. This patient not able go to toilet. So, my friend and me helped him to BO(bowel open) or defecate with support him to sat on bedpan on the bed...hehehe..I didn't know how to tell about the smell... After him finished B.O(bowel open), I ran to the toilet, and my friend followed me from the back. I was vomited in the toilet and my friend who was with me laughed on me...hahaha... so smelly what...
During my CP2 on August 2011, When some patient want to B.O I will asked other friend to help them...hahahaha..BAD Girls. sometime I need to because pity on them..hehehe and also my job to help people..hehe. After 2 months I was went for my OSCE, I was pass and got A for that. Nursing is so difficult but very interesting for me. I love nursing even though I don't like it before. It's a honourable work, my friend said and not me...hahaha

Beatcsy - Penan Nursing student, Segi Kuching 2011

Hai,saya  ialah Beatcsy, ini Adalah report tentang  aktiviti yang saya  lakukan di Kuching.  Saya minta maaf kerana terlambat menghantar report ini,harap mra atau  mrs boleh mempertimbangkan. Di sini banyak pengalaman baru yang saya perolehi.setelah hampir 3 tahun  . Belajar di segi  kolej,sarawk.terutamanya, apabila kami pergi praktikal di hospital umum sarawak,itu Adalah  cabaran bagi saya. Kerana berjumpa dengan pesakit yang sebenarnya, selama sebelum praktikal kami hanya belajar mengunakan kan  Manusia  boneka untuk belajar. Oleh itu, perpeluang untuk pergi belajar di hospital sungguh mengembirakan saya.untuk lebih memahami  apa yang saya pelajari selama ini.                                                                                                             Selain itu, bahagian teori pula,saya mempunyai 2 matapelajaran yang gagal. Iaitu health science 2 dan nursing 3. Kedua- dua matapelajaran ini sudah saya ulang semula dengan rm500 untuk satu matapelajaran bayarannya melalui ptptn saya.namun selepas itu, saya lulus dengan keputusan b dan c.

Di sini, kami memasak sendiri. Dan oleh itu, kamu perlu  membeli beras dan sayur-sayur.tetapi, kekadang kami tidak cukup duit untuk membeli barang makan.
Selain itu, saya dan kawan-kawan berjalan kaki setiap hari apabila Ada kelas.ia mengambil masa selama 15 hingga 20 Minit apabila berjalan kaki ke kolej.
Kami juga membeli nota sendiri setiap semester.

Selama di sini belajar, saya mendapat banyak kawan baru. Banyak juga, kawan-kawan yang terkejut kerana saya bagitau mereka saya orang penan. Saya  sangat,gembira  mendapat kawan yang baik.
Melalui kawan juga, saya dapat pergi gereja untuk Persatuan pemuda dan pemudi. Setiap malam selasa di gereja sib Kuching. Saya juga Bersyukur kerana dapat  pergi gereja.

Akhir sekali, saya ingin mengucapkan terima kasih atas segala pertolongan yang dihulurkan selama ini. Saya harap mr.atau mrs terus diberkati oleh tuhan.

Selamat hari Xmas dan tahun baru. Tuhan memberkati............

JENNIFER KAWAS - PENAN NURSING STUDENT 2011

When i write this report, its been my second year doing my study in Diploma in Nursing at Segi College Kuching Sarawak. By this end of year, 2011 im in semester 6.
for the first time i came to kuching, its difficult to adapt myself to the new environment and people surrounding except all my friends. But that feeling is not stay longer since i can make friends easily with other student at college. Before I received a loan from PTPTN, there are some group people have helped me and friends by giving us money. like Tan Boon Foo, Datuk Alfred Jabu and wife, Interhill and Salcra Group. with the money they gave us, we can spend it for cookware, foods and other necessary goods. We are most grateful for the help.
After my PTPTN loan is approved, each semester is RM5000. my hostel fee RM180, all study matter payment is all deducted from the loan. After all the payment is done, the balance will goes to us as pocket money. For some subject i failed, i have to whether repeat my subject or resit the exam i failed. To repeat subject, RM500 will deducted, and RM100 for resit for exam. We get the left balance twice a year where we get about RM800/RM1400, its depending on how much payment is done for study.
As im now a nursing student, i can say it is quite challenging course because its dealing with people's life. After all, teory at class is more easier than practical at hospital because we facing the real things and what more important is the real people, real patient. Oftentimes we get scolded by our Clinical Instructor because of some mistake, that make us to be better and can learn from mistake. The transportation payment from hostel to our attachment at General Hospital is not by PTPTN, but ourself.  On practical time, our life is like, Hospital-Hostel,Hostel-Hospital, it is very tiring, no time spend for other things like go hang out with other friends. Compare with go to class, its more relaxing until when there is day no class, i can do partime job at clothes store for some pocket money.
Every clinical Posting must have oral examination called OSCE. The purpose is to see how far is our skills after go to hospital. The Clinical Instructor will ask a random question and we will do infront of them, and act like we doing in real for 5 minutes. This examination is really make us nervous, this cause some procedure which we know become difficult when we suddenly forget because of nervousness.This is what i have experience.
